BOATHOUSE TREATS & TREASURES
The Boathouse started as an occasional sale (and hidden gem!) in a small shop along the North Shore of Lake Superior.
Customers loved the variety of artsy, useful, ever-changing, fun and quirky merchandise.
The Boathouse quickly became a must-stop shop for tourists, locals and lovers of vintage items.

CARR'S HOBBIES
Almost everyone who grew up in Duluth has shopped at Carr’s Hobbies in Lincoln Park at least once. Most have fond memories looking at all of the wonderful train sets, gas powered model airplanes, plastic car models and other fun things. The hobby shop was a fixture in Lincoln Park and drew customers from Chicago, Minneapolis and other far-away places.
How it all began
In the late-1940s, Martin Carr started the hobby shop by selling Lionel trains in the corner of a DX Gas Station in East Duluth. He soon out-grew that space and decided to open a hardware store.
The new store, in Lincoln Park, featured a train department that filled most of the back half of the store. In the late-1950s the store burned to the ground. Martin soon re-opened and resumed selling hardware, hobby supplies and trains.
Martin quickly built a reputation for his large inventory of model trains, quality kits and other specialty hobby items.
Jack Carr took over the business in 1968 and Carr's became a hobby shop only. The business soon expanded and moved to 2009 West Superior Street.
Carr's Hobby Shop operated for more than 70 years. The store offered model trains, radio-controlled cars, radio-controlled planes, rocket kits, slot cars, model kits, kites, hobbyist's supplies, decals, paints, tools and more.
